Near field communication is a form of wireless transfer of communication between two wireless devices that are near each other. This technology is applied in various situations but mostly in the payment of goods and services. It is a strategy that can be adopted by both private and commercial users.

Near Field Communication is a technology that has been there in a while but lately it has been revived and reviewed to give it a new twist. This technology allows payments through mobile phones. It uses Smartphone that is swiped across a reader to scan the barcode.

The technology is currently being used in various avenues including in ski-lifts, entry points of various countries and transportation systems across the world. In Japan, passengers, boarding a subway system can just place their phones at certain points where a reader scans certain information and allows them through. This can even be used with watches.

Near Field Communication may look like a technology for the next century but it’s not. It has been there for a while. Its use had not been put into wide practice before. Its use with mobile phones is also not widely used. However that should not be cause for concern because though the implications for using the technology should be considered.

Near field communication can be used with mobile phones through NFC enabled sim cards in compatible phones. Information in the sim card can be read through a reader that can be downloaded as an application or by waving the phone over a physical reader. This enables people to pay for various services and goods through their phones.

Issues in Neat field Communication and their solutions

There are various problems that have been associated with the technology. This should not alarm would-be users as they have easy and practical solutions. The first has to do with issues with security. Payment options that are contactless can present various risks. Thieves and fraudsters can target mobile phones if they are connected to the account of the holders. The solution to this is that the phones that are built for the technology have various security applications that make the rightful owner the only party that can transact using the phone. In case the mobile phone gets lost, a person can request for a freeze on withdrawals and transaction using the relevant account.
Another issue that has been raised is whether the device or Smartphone will need to be switched on in order to make a transaction. Most NFC enabled devices don’t need to be on for a person to make a transaction. The reader can scan for the required information even when the device is going off or is completely switched off. This adds to the convenience of the method as the holders of Smartphone sometimes use them so much until the battery runs out. They can still do their transactions even at such junctures.

Another issue of concern is making unintentional payments. Nothing can be more annoying than discovering that a vendor can use the mobile phone of a person to make a transaction that the holder of the mobile phone does not approve. However, this situation is highly unlikely to happen since the field that is used to transfer information is very small hence the term Near field communication.
